All in a dress

I've had to teach quite a few field labs this fall but, I still want to look stylish as I traipse through the mud, muck and streams.

This is one look I pulled together with a striped dress, a fatigue inspired jacket and my trusty Hunter's.

I think I was able to look put together to be comfortable, hip and fashionable.

I can't stop wearing these boots!

For me, Hunter wellies bridge the gap between function and style perfectly.

But, I've been wearing them longer than it has been fashionable to have a pair in your closet. I just love now when I need to put on boots to go study a stream or get through some mucky field, I look so stylish.

And, I can promise, I will still be wearing them when it is no longer so hip!

Utility

This jacket caught my eye immediately, I liked the pockets, the belt and the fall appropriate weight.

I've worn it a lot lately and got these pictures of it featured in a casual look.

My favorite part of this outfit were the layered denim and blue checked shirts,

and the beautiful vintage blue necklace.

To the point

Do you, or do you not, love pointy toed shoes?

I remember when they became a popular trend three different times in my life. The first was in high school in the early 80's (maybe 1983). All the rage was the pointy high heeled pump. I loved the trend and charged right home and into my mother closet to see if I could find any remnants from the 1960's that she had held onto. No luck, so then it was onto Grandma's house and there I found a few pairs, one in particular that I became enamored with; brown leather with a snake skin embossing. I also went and bought myself a black patent pair and I was all set!

These held on until I abandoned the trend and embraced the 1990's, Dr.Marten's, clunky platforms, squarish toed shoes and everything not a pointy toe. Then the early 2000's, I remember distinctly seeing a girl with a beautiful pair of leather pointy toed pumps and a flare jean and I fell in love again. I held onto this love of the pointy toe up until 2006 when I again abandoned them for an almond toe or round ballet flats.

Now, they are back and I have to admit, I'm a bit ambivalent.  I know that when a trend repeats its' self it is not always in the same form as before. Which is good news because, about a year ago, I got rid of all the pointy toes in my closet, with the exception of two pairs. I remember really thinking about it, do I keep them or not? The two I decided to keep were a dark blue suede flat and a black leather pump. I think I deemed them in good shape,of a nice quality and therefore a classic.

So what is different this time around?  To be honest, I really researched  and thought about this to see if mine (the blue and black pair) fit into 2012. Just short of pulling out a protractor and ruler, I made two determinations for 2012: first, the point is not as "pointy" the angle is different and is right about 45 degrees.  Secondly, the length of the point is less severe-the distance between the tip of the point and where the top of the foot becomes visible is shorter.

So, do I wear these that I've kept around? Or, do I call it a trend that needs a fresh life and buy some new?

I was really, really lucky the other day and I found a brand new pair of black flat Sam Edelman pointy toes at a thrift shop for one dollar. I bought them.

Citron and rain

Today it is rainy and not a good day for outfit photos. But, I wore it, so this means I have to photograph the clothes, rain or shine!

I felt a little Aubrey Hepburn in this outfit. And when I say that by no means draw any conclusions that I think I look like her, just quite the opposite: I'm the beast to her waif like beauty.

It's the cropped pants, flats and wide swing style coat that get the comparisons.

Enough talk about Audrey Hepburn, the real star of this outfit is the 100% silk boy shirt from Madewell that I thrifted for $2.00.

Denim and Lace

This outfit needed something more after I put on the shirt and the skirt. I thought it looked too sweet with the lace top and pencil skirt, so I threw on this denim vest and it was instantly reformed!

I stayed with silver accessories to accent the shoes and felt put together.

Dots on Dots

I wore more polka dots, what a surprise!

This outfit came about by accident; I was in a mad panic to pull something together out of my closet. It went something like this: one skirt, then off, another skirt on, now off again, different skirt, same shirt and bam! Now we have it a purple polka dotted shirt with a pencil skirt with purple and black dots. And, I liked the way it looks!

It was probably a bit much for those non-pattern mixing folks out there but, it worked perfectly for me!

I even added a dot themed bracelet!
