Shopping List: tripod, timer, more thrifted clothes

I need to get a tripod and a timer so I can stop relying on my four year old to take pictures but, I had these pictures already for this geometric tie neck blouse and J.Crew wool skirt, so I figured I'd post them.

I was pretty floored when I found this J.Crew wool skirt, it's just above the knee and from their 120's suiting collection. I was flipping through the skirts on the rack and I knew as soon as I felt it, I had something good. Quality, it is just obvious by the weight and texture of some garments. It was priced at $6 on 50% off week so, for $3.00 I was lucky enough to get a really nice skirt in my size!

The blouse is from another thrift hunt where I was specifically looking for a tie neck shirt. The colored geometric print was a unusual deviation from my style tastes but, I liked the coral and I think it works! Thanks Pantone for solidifying my choice with your spring 2012 color choice: Tangarine Tango.

Photos by four-year old.

I love fashion and I love writing posts for this blog, however, I am limited by the number of photographs or should I say photographers I have for my outfits. This should be an adequate explanation for the following:

I thrifted this great jacket at the Salvation Army. Talbot's, lined, cotton/linen blend a bit cropped and retro.  A great look for my J. Crew, Minnie pants. This is how a four-year photographs an outfit, in pieces.

Too funny, she really said "now let me get the pants for your fashion blog"

Another day with my shirt...

I just did a post about how much I love this chambray shirt and I thought I should do a separate post about the great thrifted necklace I have on! Isn't it beautiful with these gold flowers and tiny set rhinestones?  I picked this necklace up at the Salvation Army a few months ago because I just loved it!  It took me a few tries before I found the right outfit to highlight it with and here it goes so well. (Just forgive the hair and funny look!)

Can I wear this shirt everyday?

Is it any surprise to say that I love this selvedge chambray J.Crew shirt?
I struggled buying it for full price but a 30% off sale and free shipping broke me down, and I'm glad I did.

I want to wear it everyday with everything. It is just that versatile.

I have it on here with a down Land's End vest and these great Joe's jeans cargo pants (thrifted) but I think I really love how I wore it most recently with this silk metallic pencil skirt (also J.Crew from 2009).

It's comfortable and has just the right amount of relaxed fit and quality that this sparkly skirt didn't look too over the top for a day in the lab.

Thrifted Gold

One of my favorite things to thrift is jewelry (well... maybe one of many) and I always try to make a point of looking through the awful or ugly to find those hidden treasures. But, I will say that these two recent finds at two different thrift stores were my crowning glory of thrift.  Both are beautiful and 14kt gold! I don't know how they got past the handlers but when I saw them and knew what I had, I contained my joy until I left the store. Total cost: $6.00!
Gold hoops: 14kt gold thrifted $3.00 (sorry the photo isn't great)

14kt Gold Starfish pendant-thrifted- $3.00

It's fitting that this sand dollar pendant is an organism and even an invertebrate, it just warms my biology loving heart. I plan to do another post soon on many great costume jewelry finds.

So Scripted

sidenote: The birdhouse my daughter gave me to hold for the picture...she made it!
My blog has taken a back seat to more pressing demands, a.k.a (job, wife, mother) and I haven't been able to post as I would have liked. This outfit was worn on the first day of spring and is one of my very typical "scripted" outfits: dressy pants, button up shirt, belt and shoes.

This is the type of outfit I would commonly wear before I began reading fashion/style blogs. I felt like I mixed it up a bit by adding in the leopard print shoes and belt with the polka dots, thanks to all of you awesome bloggers out there, I know it works!

I love this skirt...and winter...

I'd been looking for a black, tweedy gray pencil skirt for some time and stumbled upon this wool number, it's really beautiful. It's more of a mini than a pencil but, I. LOVE.IT.

Skirt: Ann Taylor- thrifted

There is only one draw back to the skirt and the memory of these pictures...It was a really cold wintery day in March and I got sick the day I was wearing it. Now, one week post illness, in all the splendor of springy 65F degree weather I can't help but look at these pictures (and the skirt) and get slightly nauseated. I'm hoping as the memory of winter and my week long bout of Norovirus fades, I will fall in love, again.

Red or Not?

I never wear red. NEVER. EVER. then I thrifted this gorgeous red, 100% silk blouse for $4.00. I think my reluctance to wear red has to do with my thought that I don't look good in red. I really had no intentions of posting this outfit on my blog but, I came home and my husband said "hey, do you want me take a picture of your outfit" so we took pictures of my outfit.

Here they are; do I look good in red?
