Yes or No?

I bought this dress just recently after admiring it from the Target Webster collection.  I waited to purchase it because I was unsure how a maxi dress would fit into my daily outfit choices.

In this case, waiting had the added bonus of price reduction and when I saw it and purchased it for about 70% off, I thought this is a really cute dress and I like how it fits and feels.

But, I have to admit, I like how it fits and feels like I like an old nightgown; it's roomy and breezy and basically doesn't touch my body.

So, I have a question: "is not touching my body a good fashion statement or just laziness due to the heat?"

Better view of shoes.
I was thinking about wearing it to a wedding this weekend (outside at a historic horse harness racing track) and I don't know if it is a good choice. Here, I styled it with a pair of flat thongs for length consideration, I think a heel/wedge would make it look too short and wore no jewelry because the print is so busy. What do you think, is it a good choice for a wedding or better for an evening on the lake?

  1. I think it could work for both. For a wedding, I might put my hair up and wear some jewelry (maybe dangly earrings?), despite the busy print, just to make it more special. Good luck!

    1. Thanks Vivienne! I think you are right, the hair should go up and dangling earrings would make it look more elegant and wedding appropriate.

  2. perfect for a wedding and I agree some pretty long earrings would make it dressy enough. You look great in it.

  4. I ditto Vivienne! It would look so cute with some dangling earrings and a pretty bracelet! I know what you mean about the heels & maxi dresses thing- since I'm pretty tall (are you tall, too? You look tall!) I have a hard time finding maxi dresses that are long enough just with flats. I think it would be perfectly fine to wear to a lake wedding with flats as long as the sandals were "fancy" lol!

    1. Thanks, Ally! Maxi's are tricky, I'm only happy in them if they skim my shoes, otherwise they feel too short. Yeah, tall...that's why thrifted pants are never quite right and my husband's not a fan of platform wedges see this post. http://thriftedorscripted.blogspot.com/2012/06/too-tall-shoes.html

  5. Maxi dresses are perfect for summer - dressed up with some fun bangles/earrings for a fancier occasion (re: wedding) or with flip-flops for on the lake! I say, fabulous purchase!

  6. I think this would be a beautiful dress for a wedding! Though I would dress it up a bit with some jewelry. Even though the print is busy, I think it could use some plain gold bangles and maybe a gold necklace.

It sounds really comfy, and even though it's not touching your body it is not unflattering at all - I think you look great :)

    1. Thanks, Megan! I think the consensus is to wear it but, to dress it up with jewelry. I think I just had to get over my association of maxi dresses and over aged hippies. Too much time in earthy college towns in the 80's and 90's brings that to mind!
