White Skinnies

It took me a while to warm up to the trend of skinny jeans, I'm not sure if it was too much of an 80's flashback (my high school and college years) or the idea that on my curvier body, a boot cut gives a more flattering line.

Well, I have some skinny jeans now and these were the first pair I bought.

I think I'm beginning to like them and feel more up-to-date when I wear them.

But, as you can see, I do prefer to wear them with a bit of a heel, flats feel frumpy.

Fun wedges! Just the right touch with a giraffe print!

Chambray Dreams

I think I could possibly wear a chambray shirt with every pant, skirt, short (bottom) I own. That is why I would consider it a closet staple.

And, looking at the number of posts where I am wearing one of my three chambray's, I'd say I get tons of use out of this shirt!

I was reading a post by Jessica at Here(and)Now where she stated that a chambray shirt will be added to her list of classic closet staples. And, then seeing her outfit, I knew what I was finally going to be wearing with my thrifted, and unworn, Brooks Brothers floral skirt.

Chambray, so simple!

Short Story: Take Three

Trying out shorts, again.

This time, a length at mid thigh, linen (unfortunately=wrinkles) and a little dressier.

I paired these pale peach shorts with a navy blue button up, a gold belt to cinch the waist and leopard peep toes with a three strand faux pearl necklace, to add a bit of lady-like.

Overall, I think I like this look the best.

These Steve Madden peep toes wedges are pretty old but, I still like the polish they can add to a simple outfit.

Shorts: Love or Hate?

I can't decide if I love wearing shorts or if I hate wearing shorts.
Or maybe just short, shorts?

This post and in the previous I'm sporting shorts-they seem like such a likely choice in the summer time. For  style this season there are so many choices: madras, classic twill Bermuda's, patterned shorts, leather shorts, scalloped shorts and even jorts!

However, I think I would rather just wear a skirt. And I think that decision comes from how I feel about my self in shorts.

I'm a little critical and self conscious. My legs are too pale, uneven tone, bumped, scratched, bruised...the list goes on and on.

But, I don't think I'll stop wearing them maybe, just not post them here!

My daughter took this picture and said "I'll tip it so I can get the pretty yellow flowers in" so I just had to include it!

Too tall shoes?

The last time I wore these shoes my husband told me that "I was too tall to wear those kind of shoes". Well, as you can see I wore them again. This time with Bermuda shorts to balance out the proportions of this look.

I don't think for wedges they are particularly high but they are certainly taller than shoes I typically wear.

I think these are six foot high fence sections. Too tall?
I paired the J.Crew shorts with a red silk shirt and a navy polka dot belt to give a nautical feel. I like the sleeves on the shirt rolled up rather than straight down. I think this calls for some alterations.

And now as I look at these pictures with the shoes on, I must be six feet tall. So that's why, he just doesn't want me to be as tall as he is!

Two ways Betsey

I thrifted this Betsey Johnson dress two days ago and immediately came home and wore it. It has a typical Betsey vibe with a flounce skirt, small delicate sleeves and very see through fabric. I was lucky enough to have an old black, silk GAP slip dress still hanging in my closet and it was perfect underneath. Adds a bit to the length, the fabric stills flows but,
it keeps me covered and looking like a lady.

Worn with nude heels.

And also with heels but, a chunkier taupe sandal. (Seen hereToday, I put it on and it was cooler and I wanted a casual, not vamped up look so I tried out my trusty jean jacket and a pair of black western boots.

I love the floral toile fabric, it has such a vintage botanical look to it, a good excuse to take the pictures near my gardens.

I left my hair in an unwashed slightly messy state. I paired it with big round sunglasses, simple gold hoops and a vintage pendant from my Grandmother.

I think I like it best styled this way. It still shows the fun, flirty side of the dress but, doesn't look like I'm trying to be 20 years younger than I am.

But, if there was ever a designer's sweetheart dress that I could justify wearing at this age, it would be Betsey Johnson. She doesn't let age get in the way!

Ballet recitals, Birthday Parties and more...

I've been lean on the outfit posts lately and I have a busy schedule and life to blame  show for it. My daughter turned 5, I'm amazed at how the time goes by so quickly. I am loving every minute of my life with her! Also, she's been involved in ballet recitals, auditions for the Nutcracker performance at her ballet school and attending her own and other's fun filled birthday parties as well as participating in all the pre-kindergarten orientations our school district necessitates (I'm sure many of you can relate).

This is an outfit shot my daughter captured as we were going from one thing to another, I wished I had gotten multiple shots, but, here it is!

I love this floral print skirt from J.Crew, it's a purchase from the winter sale, I think left over from fall 2011 but, it is cotton so it is really versatile and can easily work with tights for winter and fall.

I tried to make it a spring/summer inspired look so I paired it with this coral colored ruffle tank, also from J.Crew (2008).
